MSU Ad Management Student, Claire Kirschner, Has the #BestStudentJobEver
Kirschner harnesses extracurricular experience to “gain wings” with Red Bull

College students are often encouraged to get involved in campus life and activities to make connections that can eventually lead to internships and full-time jobs. This advice is something MSU advertising management student, Claire Kirschner, took to heart, and it paid off.
While an internship isn’t a requirement for students in her major, Kirschner knew that gaining real-world experience was something she needed.
“It’s not just about getting an internship, but it’s just about having that practice of networking and meeting new people,” Kirschner said.
From when she first came to MSU, Kirschner wasted no time getting involved. She joined a sorority, Zeta Tau Alpha, and sought leadership roles. From being a house manager to vice president of harm reduction, and now being the chapter president, Kirschner has made valuable connections throughout the university through her sorority leadership roles.
While her campus involvement was valuable, it wasn’t necessarily related to her advertising management major. When Kirschner heard about a Red Bull internship from one of her sorority sisters, she said she knew she had to take a chance.
While going through the interview process, Kirschner was able to leverage these experiences to illustrate her various ties to campus. She explained that with a school as big as MSU, she had to bring her own connections to the team to further Red Bull’s overall brand goals.
As a member of the Red Bull team, Kirschner says she plans her own events and works to create impactful “missions” with the students on campus. She is now able to gain relevant experience and apply the skills she has gained through her classes to her internship.
“It’s all about positioning. I could have the craziest job in the world, and, if I position it the right way, I could apply it to my major,” said Kirschner about applying her interests to her major.
By getting involved in what she was already interested in, she was able to create valuable contacts that she can carry with her throughout her career. Kirschner says connections can form anywhere; it is just about being willing to take advantage of the opportunity.
